Responsify lets you quickly and effortlessly generate your own responsive grid framework and customise it as you see fit, all through an easy to use interface. It is ideal for creating a solid, standard’s compliant foundation, from which you can build upon. It's still in beta, so if you have any feedback let me know!
I created Responsify because I wanted to give back to the web design community in some way, since I have benefited so much from all of the great resources freely available to me. I wanted to help web designers who maybe haven't had the time to learn how to create Responsive websites or find it all a bit daunting. You don't have to be new to Responsive design to use it however. If you are looking for a fully responsive template, look no further.
I guess you could argue that there are grid systems out there which do exactly what Responsify does and you’d be right. Responsify is different though, it let’s you generate a template based off the custom grid of your choosing! You are not forced to work with a set number of columns or gutter width, you create the grid to suit your content. I have added default breakpoints of 768px & 480px and of course you can define your own. You can also view the template at various widths to see how the layout changes.
For those of you reading this who don’t know me, Responsify started as my Major Project for my Final year of University, but it has evolved into something much more. After I graduate from University I intend to continue working on Responsify, keeping it updated with new techniques and advancements in Responsive web design. I also plan to pair up with a developer to allow me to focus on what I do best, design and thinking up new features!
Hi, I'm Stuart Kennedy. I am happiest when I am designing, whether it's planning a layout on paper or sitting in front of a screen moving pixels. Earlier this year (2012) I graduated with a first-class honours in Interactive Multimedia Design and while I enjoyed my time at University I am glad to be working, solving problems for clients and helping them grow their businesses.
When I'm not nudging pixels around on a screen, you may find me playing video games online, reading books on my Kindle, or watching a healthy (insane) amount of TV shows.
Nothing overly exciting here for you developer folks, unfortunately I'm not using HTML9 Responsive Boilerstrap JS, maybe one day. So Responsify is running off straight PHP, HTML5 & jQuery, a wee bit of AJAX and a little dollop of CSS3 to make things pretty.
While most of the code has been written from scratch, I am using a brilliant little script written by Simon Fraser to generate PNGs, this saved me a lot of time as it meant I just had to add some of my existing calculations to the script to generate width values and it did the rest.
Hosted by the brilliant Big Wet Fish, who very kindly offered us IMD students free backups for our Major projects. Thanks guys!
I have quite a few plans for Responsify after I graduate, I just hope I can find the time to bring them to fruition. There are some ideas I would like to keep under wraps, but here are some of the small things I plan to add in the near future.
I've written a couple of blog posts about certain issues or decisions I've had to make when creating Responsify, you might find them interesting, there's only one way to find out.
I want to say thanks to some folks who've supplied me with great advice and been a great help during the development of Responsify.
Lastly thanks for reading this page and if you haven't already, please check out Responsify
